Power in PINK—If you don’t know these outfits, we can’t talk.

💌 Written by Poppy

If these outfits don’t unlock core memories, we can’t be friends! (Just kidding... maybe.)

Pink has always symbolized femininity, but it’s more than just a bathroom sign—it’s a revolution.

Despite the patriarchy (ew) trying to weaponize pink as a sign of weakness—too girly this, too girly thatwe’re RECLAIMING IT.

So today, let’s celebrate the icons who put the power in pink!

1. Marilyn Monroe

She’s beauty, she’s grace, she’s Marilyn Monroe!

This pop of pink dress was worn during the filming of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, directed by Howard Hawks in 1953.

Designed by William Travilla, her iconic silk satin dress was a last-minute replacement to distance her from a ‘scandal’ (aka diva behavior) after posing nude in 1949.

A little less revealing, but still legendary—this dress was later auctioned for $150-200K and is known to be "the most important film costume to ever come to auction".

2. Elle Woods, Legally Blonde

Beauty and brains, Elle Woods shattered the dumb blonde stereotype with a rhinestone-studded résumé.

Challenging societal expectations of just a pretty face with no substance, Elle Woods presents herself seemingly as some shallow sorority girl with daddy’s credit card and chasing after her ex-boyfriend.

However, from Legally Blonde to Legally Blonde 2, her fabulous outward appearance is not to be mistaken by any lack of intelligence, ambition and power. In fact, it brought out those qualities even more – embracing femininity as a strength, not a weakness.

As she said, “What? Like it’s hard?”

3. The Plastics, Mean Girls 2004

On Wednesdays, we wear PINK.

The Plastics ate in the 2000s, serving knitwear, low-rise mini skirts, and open-toe pumps that screamed “You can’t sit with us!” in bold, glittery pink.

Served as a regulation to sit with The Plastics has become a worldwide statement, giving rise to Pink as THE COLOR to take stage in everyone’s wardrobe in 2023. And might I argue, till present day?

4. Carrie’s suit from Sex and the City

The blueprint for every modern It-girl with commitment issues.

If there’s one thing Carrie Bradshaw can commit to - it is to have impeccable fashion choices. Situating the streets of New York, the city that never sleeps, you’ll be lucky to escape the NYPD for bad styling. Fortunately for her, that’s out of the question.

Navigating love, ambition, and friendship, Carrie never flopped an outfit. Her fem-masc pink suit? Chef’s kiss.

5. Barbie, 2023

A pink-drenched, existential fever dream that shook the world.

Blending nostalgia and modernity, Barbie became a love letter to girlhood—exploring femininity, capitalism, and impossible standards. Margot Robbie embodied the role with powerful looks, making Barbie an undeniable cultural symbol.

No surprise it became a global phenomenon even before its release—truly a revolution dressed in hot pink.

These icons prove that embracing your soft girl side doesn’t mean your outfit can’t be bold.

Speaking of, we’ve created our own pink icon: The Girlfriend Hobo Bag in Soft Pink. Don’t let the name fool you—it’s a kill them with kindness moment.
